Course overview

The CIEH Level 3 Award in Food Safety Supervision for Manufacturing is regulated in England by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). The course provides a thorough understanding of food safety and food hygiene procedures emphasising the importance of monitoring staff and controls.


Who needs this qualification?

Managers and supervisors in small, medium or large food and drink manufacturing businesses. Particularly relevant for those who have to develop or monitor HACCP based food safety management procedures and systems. Our clients include; pasta, bread, ice cream and cake manufacturers who supply to large retailers, sole traders (producing cured meats, sauce, chutney, nuts and, cider) and many more. 


Why is this training important?

Anyone working in a supervisory position in the food business is not only responsible but also accountable for food safety. It is therefore vital they are equipped with both the knowledge and confidence to do their job effectively.


Learning outcomes:

Successful completion of the training programme and assessment will enable candidates to understand:

  • How food business operators can ensure compliance with food safety legislation
  • The application and monitoring of good hygiene practice
  • How to implement food safety management procedures
  • The role of supervision in food safety management procedures

  • Duration: Three-day programme 
  • Assessment: Multiple choice examination  - 60 questions
  • Ofqual Regulated: Yes 
  • Ofqual qualification reference: Manufacturing - 500/5092/8 
  • QFC reference: Manufacturing: T/502/0183
  • QFC: 3 credits 
  • Entry guidance: ideally candidates should have a minimum CIEH Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Manufacturing or level 2 in HACCP, taken within the last three years. 
  • CIEH recommends candidates have a Level 1 in literacy or equivalent to undertake this qualification.
  • Exam results: Candidates who achieve 40–50 correct answers will pass the examination and receive a pass certificate. Those who achieve 51 and more correct answers will receive a merit certificate.

The trainer:

The trainer has a Bsc (Hons) in nutrition, biology and dietetics from a London University. Prior to that the trainer studied for a food science diploma and also gained a level 4 award in food safety and several HACCP qualifications. The trainer has worked in industry and delivers this course to a range of different food manufacturing businesses e.g.bread, pasta, noodles, cakes, fish and many more. The trainer is a CIEH accredited member and a member of TiFSiP. Kitchen Tonic is listed under excellent training centres
