RSPH Level 2 Award Food Safety and Hygiene

This level 2 food safety course will provide you knowledge and understanding of the importance of food hygiene, associated food hazards, good hygiene practice and controls based upon an awareness of food safety management systems. Holders will know how to maintain good practice in the handling, processing and preparation of safe food.

Kitchen Tonic runs public classroom based course at our venue in London. We also offer corporate training - we can come to you and deliver this course for you and your staff. 

Who is this course for? 

This course is targeted at food handlers who work or intend to workin catering and hospitality. A food handler is any person, in any type of food business, who handles food. The food can be open or packaged and includes drinks and ice.

This award is also ideally suited to people who need to enter food premises as part of their work, e.g. equipment maintenance engineers; off-site business owners/managers and delivery personnel. The aim of this qualification is to provide a basic knowledge of food hygiene..


Why is food hygiene training important? 

Everyone who works with food has a responsibility for safeguarding the health of consumers and ensure that the food they serve or sell is perfectly safe to eat.

Your Trainer: worked in food businesses including NHS kitchens and for a while ran a food business. The trainer has a B.Sc(Hons) in a food science related subjects and level 4 in food safety. The trainer delivers training courses for local authority adult education colleges in London and other training centres. 

What is the purpose of this course?

The purpose of this qualification is for learners to obtain a knowledge and understanding of; the importance of food hygiene, associated food hazards, good hygiene practice and controls based upon an awareness of food safety management systems.

  • food safety and hygiene hazards
  • temperature control
  • refrigeration, chilling and cold holding
  • cooking, hot holding and reheating
  • food handling
  • principles of safe food storage
  • cleaning
  • food premises and equipment.

We provide both open to public courses for anyone to join and in-house training, when we can come to you and train your staff on-site.


Course information:

  • Assessment: Multiple choice examination 30 questions with 20 correct to pass
  • Ofqual Qualification Number 500/5480/6 
  • Candidate prerequisite requirements: None
  • All candidates will have to show some form of official ID on the day of course, e.g. a passport or ID card.

Public courses cost £45pp this includes the cost of exam fees.
